Dear LORD, With profound gratitude, I thank You for the community of believers who have surrounded my precious bride during her time of recovery. I never cease to be amazed at the outpouring of kindness—presence, food, flowers, balloons, and sweets which keep showing up.
Make us mindful of how comforting this has been, so when it is our turn to share in someone else's grief or pain, we will remember and respond with the same love.
If there is someone whose life we can bless with community today, Lord, make us sensitive enough to rush to provide it. All of this I pray in the name of Jesus, who always brought comfort to those who hurt. Amen.
Verses for Today:
For Christian community:
"Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing." — 1 Thessalonians 5:11
"Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms." — 1 Peter 4:10
For bearing burdens:
"Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ." — Galatians 6:2
"Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn." — Romans 12:15
For Jesus' example:
"Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted." — Matthew 5:4
"Jesus wept." — John 11:35 (showing His empathy)
"Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." — Matthew 11:28
Reflection Question:
"Who in your life is walking through a valley right now? What is one practical way you can 'rush to provide' community this week?"
