LORD God, On this Your set-aside day, I remind myself that among all Your creatures, human beings are the only ones who can think about the future. I have never asked my miniature golden doodle what he's going to be when he grows up. He doesn't know, and he doesn't care. He just does what You programmed him to do.
It is a special blessing to be able to plan ahead, to think about tomorrows—but it can also be a curse. Please help me this week not to worry about future things. Instead, help me use my wonderful mind to think about You in all Your majesty and grandeur. Help me do this every day and all day, for the sake of Your Kingdom. Amen.
Verses for Today:
For thinking about the future:
"The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty." — Proverbs 21:5
"Commit your work to the LORD, and your plans will be established." — Proverbs 16:3
For not worrying about tomorrow:
"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." — Matthew 6:34
For focusing on God's greatness:
"Meditate on these things; immerse yourself in them, so that your progress may be evident to everyone." — 1 Timothy 4:15
"Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable His judgments, and His paths beyond tracing out!" — Romans 11:33
For using our minds:
"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind." — Matthew 22:37
"Be transformed by the renewing of your mind." — Romans 12:2
Devotional Thought:
Brothers and sisters, there's something beautiful about how God made us. My golden doodle lives in the moment—he eats, sleeps, plays, and doesn't lose sleep over tomorrow. But we? We're wired to think ahead. The blessing? Planning, preparing, stewarding. The curse? Worrying, fearing, losing sleep over things that may never happen. This week, let's redirect that magnificent God-given mind. Not toward anxiety, but toward adoration. What a gift
