Music to Worship to

Heavenly Father, I confess I struggle with balancing contemporary music with the grandeur of time-honored hymns and gospel songs. I want to sing with joy, yet so much contemporary Christian music feels more suited for a rock concert than a time of adoration and praise. Perhaps my time has passed—perhaps this is where a new generation of worshippers will emerge.

Teach me, Lord, to be responsible for my own worship regardless of what is presented before me. Help me find joy in worship that transcends style and genre. Yet I desire to be part of a growing church—a community of young adults and old alike who seriously take the Great Commission to heart. A place where every now and again, a great old hymn of praise and adoration resounds for us old folks, bridging generations in one song.

All of this I humbly ask in Jesus' precious name, while humming "Learning to Lean on Jesus" in the background. Amen.

Verses for Today:

For worship from the heart:

"Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness; tremble before Him, all the earth." — Psalm 96:9

"Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth. Break forth and sing for joy and play upon instruments." — Psalm 98:4-5

For generational worship:

"Let the older men and women be reverent... Teach the younger women to love their husbands and children." — Titus 2:2-4

"One generation shall commend Your works to another, and shall declare Your mighty acts." — Psalm 145:4

For the Great Commission:

"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." — Matthew 28:19
