Dear Father, today I mourn the death of my friend Rick, who fought the good fight over pancreatic cancer to the very end. Help me remember his day of surrender—when he said, "No More" to the extraordinary treatments of chemotherapy, and said he knew where he was going and to Whom he was going.
He quietly surrendered this earthly life into Your hands this week. Teach me to be similarly ready when my time is done—to accept it as he did. Into Your hands I commit my spirit, for now and for all eternity.
I pray this in Jesus' precious name and His faithful promises of glory. Amen.
Verses for Today:
Luke 23:46 – "Father, into Your hands I commit my spirit."
Why It FitsChrist's final words; Rick echoed them
2 Timothy 4:7-8 – "I have fought the good fight… there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness."
Why It Fits "Fought the good fight" language
John 14:1-3 – "In My Father's house are many mansions…
Why It FitsI go to prepare a place for you."Rick knew where he was going
Psalm 31:5 – "Into Your hands I commit my spirit; redeem me, O Lord, God of truth."
Why It Fits Old Testament parallel to Luke
