Full speed ahead…no questions

My Dear Heavenly Father, sometimes it seems so counter intuitive to do what you ask of me. In my mind I hear my silent voice…’surely not THAT, LORD!’ Then I read again how You told Israel to just do it and I so want to be emboldened to obey rather than question You. I found this devotional thought today and include it in my prayer in Jesus’ name. Amen

Forward might not seem like much of an answer. I’m sure it didn’t seem like an answer for the Israelites whose “forward” was the Red Sea. The definition of “forward” according to Google is “in the direction that one is facing or traveling, toward the front,” and, “onward so as to make progress, toward a successful conclusion.”

Over and over, I have cried out to You for an answer, and here it was with none of the attributes I thought it would have. Simply go forward — and yet somehow, I knew exactly what You were telling me.

When You speak, the assurance of Your truth is expressed more clearly than the most detailed of directions. Your responses rarely come how I think they will, and they rarely make sense until I obey.

Many times, You have given me answers that don’t seem like answers. But I think that’s because You are answering a cry in my heart that even I don’t understand. Remind me You see what is on the other side of my Red Sea. You are aware of my wilderness and the approaching attack of my Egypt. Sometimes Your answer is, “Why do you cry to Me? Go forward.”

…and so, My Heavenly Father, You are my forward, and in You, there is no fear. Remind me, Lord, in times of uncertainty, that while I may not understand the path I’m on, Your call is irrevocable, and Your direction is faultless. In Jesus’ Name, I pray today. Amen.

Verse for Today: “God responded to Moses’ silent pleas, “The LORD said to Moses, ‘Why do you cry to me? Tell the people of Israel to go forward. Lift up your staff, and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it, that the people of Israel may go through the sea on dry ground’” (Exodus 14:15-16 ESV).
